Caroline Shaw (1982)

Valencia

Suzanne Farrin (1976)

Undecim

Suzanne Farrin’s music explores the interior worlds of instruments and the visceral potentialities of sound. Her music has been performed by some of the great musicians of today on stages across Europe and North and South America.

Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel  (1805-1847)

String Quartet in E flat Major final movement

Fanny Mendelssohn -Hensel- Composer  Felix Mendelssohn and his older sister Fanny  developed a close relationship that was to endure throughout their lives. While Fanny’s gender prohibited her from enjoying the same social opportunities or support in developing her musical gifts, her talents appeared to be nearly as formidable as those of her more famous brother. The fact that from very early in their lives, and until Fanny’s death, Felix would regularly submit his compositions to Fanny’s discerning musical eye and ear, taking her critical advice to heart, and never hesitating to modify or excise entirely material that she found questionable. Felix began to refer to his older sister as “Minerva,” the Roman goddess of wisdom, for her highly developed musical and intellectual insight.

Jessie Montgomery (1981)

Break Away

Jessie Montgomery -Jessie Montgomery is an acclaimed composer, violinist, and educator. She is the recipient of the Leonard Bernstein Award from the ASCAP Foundation, and her works are performed frequently around the world by leading musicians and ensembles. Jessie performs with the Sphinx Award Winning Catalyst String Quartet

Ledah Finck

In the Brink

Ledah Finck – A co-founder of the Bergamot String Quartet and experimental duo The Witches.  As a composer, she has been commissioned by Imani Winds, Alarm Will Sound/Now Hear This, the Bridge Ensemble, and The Peabody Community Chorus. Her music embodies a desire to create and share a sound-world in which the classical tradition, the folk music with which she grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and an extensive improvisatory sensibility can be in productive dialogue.

Felipe Lara

Corde Vocale

Felipe Lara -Praised by the New York Times as “a gifted Brazilian-American modernist”  whose works are “brilliantly realized”, “technically formidable, wildly varied”, and possess “voluptuous, elemental lyricism”, Felipe Lara’s work, which includes orchestral, chamber, vocal, film, electroacoustic, and popular music engages in producing new musical contexts by means of (re)interpreting and translating acoustical and extra-musical properties of familiar source sonorities into project-specific forces
